For ten years I designed and made historic costumes for SCA members and Renaissance fair participants. The one thing consistently missing was quality footwear with period appropriate styling. I found a group of craftsmen making high-end western boots and orthopedic shoes who agreed to make my designs. Their skills have made possible comfortable, well-made period-inspired footwear for both men and woman.
Inspiration has come from the Victoria Albert Museum collection, Mode in Costume by R. Turner Wilcox, Patterns of Fashion by Jane Arnold, Encyclopedia of World Fashion by Doreen Yarwood, The Evolution of Fashion by Hill & Bucknell, the Museum of London’s Shoes and Pattens by Grew & de la Croix, Tudor Costume and Fashion by Herbert Norris, Medieval Costume and Fashion by Herbert Norris and Shoes, The Complete Sourcebook by John Peacock. In addition to the print sources we’ve used the art of the period.
Assuming that there was as much variety in personal fashion as there was in household furnishings, many of the designs are variations of the examples that have survived. With that spirit in mind, we wish to allow you the same flexibility using modern materials and techniques.
